    Bing Lang (Semen Arecae)
    Properties: acrid, bitter, warm
    Channels: Large Intestine, Stomach
    Key Characteristics: Expels parasites (especially tapeworm, but also most other intestinal parasites, and blood flukes), promotes movement of qi, facilitates urination, resolves phlegm and food stagnation, directs qi downward. Also used for malarial disorders.

  • Shi Jun Zi

    Shi Jun Zi (Fructus Quisqualis)
    Properties: sweet, warm
    Channels: Spleen, Stomach
    Key Characteristics: Kills parasites (especially roundworms and pinworms). Treats childhood nutritional impairment.
    Additional Notes: Instruct the patient NOT to drink hot tea when taking this herb, as it increases the chance of abdominal discomfort, hiccup, nausea and diarrhea. (If these symptoms do appear, they will go away by themselves after a few hours).
